Overview
Spirit Box SBX: Ghost Radio (the “App”) is a spirit box app for paranormal investigation sessions. It sweeps through audio banks in the style of a scanning radio, plays the result out loud, and can record your sessions using the microphone. It is built to work entirely on your device.
The short version: we do not run servers, we do not create user accounts, we do not use analytics or advertising SDKs, and your session recordings never leave your phone unless you choose to share or save them yourself. The only third party involved is RevenueCat, which manages in-app purchases.
Information we do not collect
The App does not collect, transmit or store on any server:
- Your session recordings, audio or session notes.
- Your name, email address, phone number or any account information (there are no accounts).
- Your precise or approximate location. The App does not request location permission and does not tag sessions with a location.
- Your contacts, calendar, photos, health data or any other data from other apps.
- Usage analytics, crash reports, advertising identifiers or behavioural tracking data.
How the sweep works
The audio banks included with the App are bundled inside it and play from your device. The App does not tune into real radio broadcasts and does not stream audio from the internet. Sweep speed, direction, reverse playback and other effects are applied on your device.
Some premium voice packs may be downloaded on demand rather than shipped inside the App. A pack download is a plain file request: it carries no account information, identifier or usage data. Like any internet request, it reveals your IP address to the server delivering the file, which is used only to send you the download.
Apart from optional pack downloads, the App makes no network requests of its own. The only other network traffic comes from Apple’s in-app purchase system and RevenueCat, described below.
Microphone
The App asks for microphone permission only when you choose to record a session. A recording captures whatever the microphone hears, including the App’s own audio output and your surroundings, so that you can listen back later. Microphone data is processed on your device only: it is written to files inside the App’s private storage and is never uploaded anywhere by the App.
Session recording is optional. You can use the sweep without ever granting microphone access, and you can revoke the permission at any time in iOS Settings › Privacy & Security › Microphone.
Data stored on your device
The following data is stored locally, in the App’s sandbox on your device, and nowhere else:
- Your session recordings, until you delete them from the App.
- Session metadata (date, duration, audio bank and sweep settings used) and any notes you type, used to display your session history.
- Your settings, such as preferred audio bank, sweep speed, volume and effect options.
- Any voice packs you have downloaded.
- Your purchase status, cached so that premium features keep working offline.
Deleting your data
Deleting a session in the App permanently removes its recording and notes from your device. Deleting the App removes all of its data, including sessions you have not exported and any downloaded voice packs. Recordings you shared to other apps or saved to Files are managed by those apps and are not affected. Your purchase record stays with Apple and can be restored after reinstalling the App.
In-app purchases (RevenueCat and Apple)
The App has a free tier. Premium features are unlocked with either an auto-renewing subscription or a one-time lifetime purchase. Purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store; we never see your payment details.
To validate purchases and unlock features across reinstalls, the App uses RevenueCat, a purchase management service. RevenueCat receives an anonymous, randomly generated app user identifier, your App Store purchase receipt, and basic device information (device model, OS version, app version, locale). This is the minimum information needed to confirm that a purchase is active. RevenueCat does not receive your name, email or any of your recordings.
RevenueCat’s privacy policy is available at https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy. Apple’s privacy policy is available at https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/.
Sharing
When you use the share button, the App hands the selected recording to the iOS share sheet. What happens next is governed by the app or service you choose to share to, not by us.
Children
The App is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country) and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Since the App does not collect personal information at all, there is nothing for us to delete; if you believe a child has made a purchase without permission, contact Apple Support to request a refund.
Your rights
Because we hold no personal data about you on any server, requests to access, correct, export or delete your data are fulfilled entirely by you, on your device, as described above. If you have a question about your rights under GDPR, the UK GDPR, CCPA/CPRA or similar laws, or want to know what RevenueCat holds for your anonymous identifier, contact us and we will help.
Security
Your session recordings are stored in the App’s private container, protected by iOS sandboxing and your device passcode and encryption. Communication with RevenueCat and Apple uses TLS.
Changes to this policy
If we change how the App handles data, we will update this page and the “Last updated” date. Material changes will also be described in the App Store release notes for the update that introduces them.
